Deutsche Wohnen commits to sustainable development in the German economy

Frankfurt am Main and Berlin, 15 September 2016. Following the publication of its first statement of compliance in 2015, Deutsche Wohnen has now published its second statement of compliance with the German Sustainability Code on the website of the German Council for Sustainable Development [Rat für Nachhaltige Entwicklung]. At the same time, the company has met once again the requirements of the supplementary code that deals specifically with the residential property industry. Alongside its sustainability report, which Deutsche Wohnen has produced every year since 2012 in accordance with the international benchmark set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the statement of compliance with the German Sustainability Code is further proof of the company's commitment to transparency and to a greater comparability of sustainable performance.

As Philip Grosse, the CFO of Deutsche Wohnen, explains, "The German Sustainability Code is a powerful political tool for establishing sustainable economic activity in Germany and, in so doing, working towards achieving the UN's global Sustainable Development Goals. Deutsche Wohnen continues to give emphatic support to these aims and, with its transparency and its measures to improve energy efficiency, is contributing to their achievement."

The German Sustainability Code enables companies to present their sustainable activities in a way that is transparent, comparable and, therefore, clear to both investors and other interested stakeholders. With its 20 qualitative criteria and its 28 complementary GRI performance indicators, the code provides a quick overview of a company's ecological, social and economic performance. The German Sustainability Code was developed by the German Council for Sustainable Development on behalf of the federal government, following extensive dialogue with representatives of both conglomerates and medium-sized companies in a variety of sectors.
